Season Review

Another season has passed us by. Too quickly for some, although if you brave the winter breeze that passes over Manor Park you may disagree.
It has been a largely successful season for all the teams involved for North Notts. Every team from the men’s and women’s first teams right down to the fifth and fourth teams respectively. We haven’t even mentioned the juniors yet.
The men’s first team were the headline winning side as they marched towards promotion to the East Midlands Premier. Starting at the back end of September the men’s firsts would only lose one game all season as they won the East Midlands division one by a margin of 11 points.
It was the Butlers Allen and Will who lead the scoring charts with 38 and 27 goals respectively. It was not just those scoring the goals that contributed to the team’s success as the defence conceded just 37. The second best in the league.
The Women’s first team finished seventh in the Midlands Premier. With some strong teams including University of Nottingham firsts who won every match and Beeston seconds, it was a good effort. The ladies achieved eight more points than last year, and this has confidently secured their position in this strong division.
The Men’s seconds finished mid-table of North East Premier with a symmetrical looking record of 10 wins two draws and 10 defeats.
After a difficult start, the women’s second team won five games after the Christmas break to finish fourth in the Nottinghamshire Championship and if results had gone their way on the final day of the season it is possible that they could have finished third.
With the leagues being opened our men’s third and fourth team's faced each other Midland’s North East Three. Both teams are at different ends of their hockey journeys and it was the fourth team's experience that showed as they finished fourth. The thirds finishing third from bottom.
The Women’s thirds leapfrogged Boots V to finish sixth on the final day of the season in division one of the Notts league.
The women’s fourths and men’s fifths have the same role in introducing new players both youngsters and those taking it up as adults. This means that sometimes looking at results is misleading as both teams look to gel and bring on the skills. With neither of those sides looking like finishing bottom is a credit to the players involved.
The junior teams who represented North Notts were a credit to the club and while results at that level don’t matter in the long term, they won more than they lost.
Off the field, we were busy fundraising for charities MIND (nearly £500) and Macmillan Cancer Support (£300). One of our biggest achievements was winning the Mansfield District's Club of the year 2018. All of which we couldn't have done without the support of our players, volunteers and friends and families.
With a busy summer ahead including the summer leagues, plenty of training and a new pitch on the way it is as good a time as ever to be involved in the North Notts family.
